Influenza Vaccines

The influenza role-out has started across Queensland. This can now be co-administered with your Covid-19 Winter Dose should you wish to do so. A reminder that the National Immunisation Program (NIP) provide free influenza vaccinations to only certain groups. If you are not a part of one of these groups, you will need to buy the vaccine before it can be given to you.

Covid-19 Vaccine Winter Dose

A Winter dose of the Covid-19 Vaccine is an additional booster or a 4th Dose to be given 4 months after your first booster/3rd dose, which at the moment is only recommended for the following population groups:

  1. Adults aged 65 and over
  2. Residents of aged care or disability care facilities
  3. People aged 16 years and older with severe immunocompromise (as defined in the  ATAGI statement on the use of a 3rd primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine in individuals who are severely immunocompromised)
  4. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older.

For those aged 16+ who are severely immunocompromised, this will be a 5th dose, 4 months after your booster and your 3 dose Primary course. To help you have a better understanding of who’s due for what and when, please click on the link for ATAGI’s Recommended Doses and Vaccines poster.

Covid Booster Vaccines Available

If you have had your second dose of the Covid vaccine and you are severely immunocompromised, it is recommended for you to recieve your Covid vaccine booster from 2 to 6 months after getting your second dose. For every one else, it it recommended 6 months after your second dose.

While the ATAGI has advised that a mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) is preferred as a 3rd dose, we do have the option of AstraZeneca as well as Pfizer for a booster shot.

Bone Density

The MeasureUp Bone Density Bus is coming to Maya Medical on the 7th and 8th of June. If you’re 70 or above and at a high risk of Osteoporosis, you will qualify for a free scan. If you have already received a Bone Density Scan elsewhere within the last 12 months, it isn’t necessary for you to have another at this time. Please call us on 07 4315 6939 to book an appointment for a referral.

COVID-19 Vaccines

Maya Medical Centre is now conducting COVID-19 vaccinations at our practice. We now have a supply of the AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax vaccines. If you, or anyone you know would like to book an appointment or would like to know more, please contact either the doctor or our reception staff on 4315 6939.
